We are often asked about the difference between Emsculpt and Coolsculpting, so we wanted to post the information. From careful research we believe that offering Emsculpt instead of Coolsculpting is the best option for our patients. Please read about the differences of the Emsculpt vs Coolsculpting here and then contact us for a consultation where we can discuss what you can expect from Emsculpt treatments.
Safety:
Emsculpt has had no adverse events reported other than mild muscle soreness that lasts only a few days. Magnetic energy from Emsculpt is not harmful to the body. Similar technology is being investigated for healing sports injuries.
Coolsculpting, however, can cause significant complications as it actually freezes tissue with the possible problems of uneven results, nerve damage, and scarring or fibrosis (hardening) of fat tissue. We actually use Emsculpt and another BTL device, Vanquish ME, to treat patients who have uneven areas after Coolsculpting or liposuction.
Comfort:
Emsculpt is very comfortable. Some patients even laugh during the treatments. It feels like strong muscle contractions. The intensity of the treatment is adjustable. Most patients reach 100 percent intensity with no problem during the first treatment.
Coolsculpting is somewhat painful for most patients as it freezes the tissue and hence the nerves in the skin and fat. It is not adjustable – the fat must be frozen to kill the fat.
Mechanism of fat removal:
Emsculpt removes fat naturally by stimulating muscle to release adrenaline, which eliminates fat cells for several weeks through a natural process called apoptosis. Patients see improvement in the area, and even other nearby areas, evenly, for several weeks.
Coolsculpting simply freezes the fat which kills the cells, but can damage skin and nerves.
Builds muscle:
Emsculpt builds new muscle – and much faster than working out. This sculpts abs and flutes and other areas in a way that no other device can. Emsculpt causes 20,000 muscle contractions in 30 minutes. These fast pulsed contractions are much more efficient in building muscle than the long slow contractions from exercise.
On the other hand, Coolsculpting does nothing for muscle.
Results:
In 4 easy treatments over 2 weeks the average patient builds about 15 percent more muscle in the area and loses 20 percent of the fat. This provides a more toned and sculpted appearance. Fat removal alone cannot achieve these results in body shape. We can help patients who are at their ideal weight, and patients who are trying to lose weight as well. The muscle building is key here.
Coolsculpting sometimes works to remove fat but with the risk of uneven fat removal and no muscle building we chose Emsculpt as a clear winner for our patients as the best fat reduction procedure.
Ease of use, comfort, safety, consistently even results, and added muscle – all reasons why our patients love Emsculpt!
